Baineann an t-ionad seo le cúrsaí tógála agus iarfheistiú tithíochta agus d’fhreastail ranganna Staidéar Foirgníochta CCL ar an ionad i rith na bliana seo caite. Thug scoláirí na scoile taispeántas don Aire faoin na scileanna agus saineolas atá acu ar an ábhar seo. An-jab déanta acu uile.

Simon Harris, Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science visited Coláiste Cois Life on Wednesday 23rd August,  where he launched a new mobile training unit. This will travel around the country and aims to increase accessibility to construction-related and retrofitting courses.

The mobile Nearly Zero-Emission Building (NZEB) unit will be used to visit schools and construction sites. Construction Studies students from Coláiste Cois Life were among the first second level students in the country to visit the Mount Lucas, National Construction Training Campus last year.

Bhí teacht le chéile ag Gaelcholáistí agus Aonad an BOOÁCDL ar an 26 Lúnasa ag cur tús don bhliain acadúil 23/24. Tháinig baill foirne ón gcúig scoil ar fad le chéile san Óstán Plaza i dTamhlacht faoin téama ‘ag cur le Teagasc agus Foghlaim i Suíomh Lán-Ghaeilge.’

Bhí atmaisféar fuinniúil, spleodrach, gaelach le brath ann agus tugadh seans do na múinteoirí ar fad plé faoi na dea-chleachtais atá i bhfeidhm acu agus na dúshláin ar leith atá rompu.

Thosaigh an ócáid le fáilte ón stiúrthóir scoile Adrian Flynn. Bhí cuir i láthair againn ó mhuintir COGG, Gean Gilger ón ETBI agus Cormac Breathnach ó Foclóir.ie. Bhí an Dr. Sarah NÍ Dhuinnín (Ollscoil Luimnigh) mar phríomhchainteoir againn ag plé cúrsaí FCÁT agus bhí straitéisí thar a bheith tairbheach aici don seomra ranga. Bhí cuir i láthair iontacha i measc ár scoileanna féin. Rinne Ciarán Ó Caomhánaigh (Gaelcholáiste Reachrann) plé faoi mheasúnaithe neamhfhoirmiúla sa seomra ranga. Bhí cur i láthair ag Mhairéad Ní Mhathúna (Coláiste Chilliain) ar an bplean feabhsúcháin scoile atá dírithe ar úsáid na Gaeilge sa scoil.

Rinne Edel Ní Arrachtáin (Coláiste de hÍde) cur i láthair ar bhuíon teagaisc agus bhí plé faoi thogra TEG san Idirbhliain ag Ciarán Ó Conghaile (Coláiste Cois Life). Chríochnaigh Evelyn Ní Raghaill (Coláiste na Tulchann) le seisiún ar bhogearraí aistriúcháin Matecat chomh maith le aiseolas ar an lá.

Bhí lá iontach rathúil againn agus táimid ag súil go mór leis an gcéad teacht le chéile againn arís. ‘Ní neart go cur le chéile’

La na nGaelcholaisti DDLETB meeting Plaza Hotel Tallaght

The four Gaelcholáistí and the Aonad within the DDLETB had a networking day on the 26th August as part of the start to the academic year 23/24 in the Plaza Hotel, Tallaght.

The theme of the day was ‘developing teaching and learning in an all-Irish language context.’ There was an energetic and exuberant atmosphere to be felt on the day and an opportunity was given to all teachers to discuss their good practices in place as well as the challenges they are facing.

The occasion started with a welcome from the Director of Schools Adrian Flynn. There were presentations from COGG, Gean Gilger; ETBI and Cormac Breathnach from Foclóir.ie. Dr. Sarah Ní Dhuinnín was our keynote speaker and she discussed CLIL and she had some excellent examples for the class room.

There were some fantastic presentations from our own schools. Ciarán Ó Caomhánaigh (Gaelcholáiste Reachrann) discussed informal assessment in the class room. Mairéad Ní Mhathúna (Coláiste Chilliain) had a presentation on the school’s improvement plan that prioritised the use of the Irish Language in the school. Edel Ní Arrachtáin (Coláiste de hÍde) presented on team teaching while Ciarán Ó Conghaile (Coláiste Cois Life) discussed the advantages of using TEG (Teastas Eorpach na Gaeilge) with their Transition Years. Evelyn Ní Raghaill (Coláiste na Tulchann) finished the day with a session on Matecat, a new translation software and continued with a short feedback exercise.

The day was extremely successful and we look forward to the next occasion, ‘Ní neart go cur le chéile.’

A Visit To The National Botanical Gardens & Arboretum

This year we used the NALA Student Development Fund to take a group of 23 students to the National Botanical Gardens and Arboretum in Kilmacurragh, Co Wicklow. It was a fantastic opportunity for our learners to enjoy an experience together that might not otherwise be possible. We had a really fantastic, almost magical day and when we returned to the center at the end everyone was buzzing. There was a real sense of community within our centre. Everyone agreed that it had really enhanced their year of learning with us. It was fun, educational, relaxing, and a brilliant way to end the term.

DDLETB Adult Education Service Trip To National Botanic Gardens, Wicklow

We hired a bus, loaded it up with supplies, newspapers, worksheets, frozen water (it was really, really hot) coffee, tea, cakes and a picnic lunch and 3 tutors joined the students. Once we arrived we enjoyed coffee and cakes before the tour.

Our tour guide was fabulous, I spoke with her briefly about the profile of the group, and that we had created a quiz. She was wonderful, tailoring the tour to our learner’s level, including information that was important for the quiz. The learners were captivated and concentrated (unusual for a large group) and learned a lot historically and botanically. They were amazed at the beauty of nature. There is an area planted for meditation and relaxation, full of orchids, which we walked through silently, this was a completely new idea for most of the learners and afterwards everyone said how much they had enjoyed it.

Whilst we enjoyed a gorgeous picnic in the sun, which was a real treat, I observed that new friends were being made. A lot of them had not met before or only seen each other to nod hello to. We had several younger men and women who are generally very shy, sitting and lying together with the older members in the grass talking about what they had seen and learned. About how they would never have thought to come somewhere like this and how great it was. Beside us was a tree that grows outwards (not up) and inside is a tangle of branches and trunks and lots of the learners made small groups to enjoy exploring it. It was wonderful to see such integration and appreciation.

The quiz and prize giving of plants (we had two joint first prizes, three joint second prizes, and four joint third prizes) was wonderful with lots of laughter and appreciation. Everyone went home thrilled from the day and looked very happy.’

DDLETB Active Youth Challenge 2023

The Active Youth Challenge (AYC), hosted by Dublin and Dun Laoghaire ETB Youth and Sports Section, is an annual programme which encourages young people (aged 10-24) to be physically active for an hour each week for a period of twelve weeks. The programme commences each year in February and culminates in May with a public recognition event. This programme is open to all youth and voluntary groups throughout County Dublin.

The programme is coordinated by DDLETB sports officers and the individual groups participating are led by their youth officers or designated group leaders. Groups are encouraged to design and select activities of their choice; being as creative and as novel as possible. The uniqueness of their individual group programmes is reflected in their project submissions, which are forwarded for independent adjudication.

The recognition event this year saw 250 young people from 33 groups awarded medals, certificates and trophies. They had collectively accumulated approximately 460 hours of activity in total.

Special Awards

There were 3 special awards:

The “Best Name” went to the group “The Jammy Jobers”

The “Most Novel Activity” went to the group “JFC Score Settlers.”

The “Overall Excellence Award” went to the group “Not Furious, Just Fast.”

The event was hosted on Friday, May 26th at Phibblestown Community Centre. It was a wonderful evening for all involved, and was attended by the Mayor of Fingal, Minister O’Gorman and DDLETB Senior Leaders. Participants and attendees were entertained by Music Generation and Remember Us All Star Choir. We also had the opportunity to meet and hear from Zak Moradi, Leitrim hurler and Author, on the importance of sport, teamwork and inclusion.

Thank you to all those who participated and supported our young learners during the programme and thank you to all those who attended our ceremony.

Design Exhibition In Blackrock Further Education Institute

After a year of hard work in Blackrock Further Education Institute, our design students are ready to exhibit their work.

Interior and Architectural Design, Landscape Design, Product, and Graphic Design students have put together an exciting selection of their work for visitors to enjoy.

The exhibition opens on Tuesday 23 May from 6 pm to 8 pm and can be viewed on 24 and 25th of May from 10am to 4pm a the college.

All are welcome to come and see what our design team has been doing.

Loughlinstown Training Centre Open Day – 17th May

Loughlinstown Training Centre’s OPEN DAY takes place on Wednesday, May 17th from 10 am to 3 pm.

This event will host more than 25 exhibitors from across a range of sectors designed to meet the education and learning needs of adults in South County Dublin.

On the day we will have DDLETB local PLC colleges promoting their FET programmes as well as our own Training Centre providing information on Apprenticeships and Skills-based Training Programmes for the employed and unemployed.

Several Health Care Support companies who are actively recruiting to fill existing vacancies will be in attendance; also, Community Employment projects will have information about opportunities for those wishing to re-enter the world of work in a range of settings including the arts, retail, and horticultural sectors.

CV and Interview Skills information sessions will be delivered at times throughout the day to all who are interested, and career guidance and advice is also available to attendees.

This and much more will be on offer on Wednesday, May 17^th in Loughlinstown Training Centre, don’t miss this fantastic opportunity to gain so much in one visit!
